Review of the Article

The article was written for the human race to read and realize that the prediction of Judgement Day occurring on 2012 might not be precise at all. They achieved to meet this objective by stating why doomsday might not occur and opinions/thoughts of experts. The article stated the reasons why doomsday may not emerge on 2012 because of repeated inaccurate notion since centuries ago. Apart from that, the article stated Sony Pictures spokesperson said that the movie was for entertainment experience which all the more convince people that 21st December 2012 may not be the Day of Judgement.

I think that the issue was raised as we’re approaching 2012. No doubt it being an intriguing topic but the fear it instill in human beings is what makes it horrifying. That is exactly why the issue is raised – to instill urgency in human race to make them repent for whatever wrong they’ve done since many of us are too engaged with our own activities. Another significance of the article is that human beings cannot predict when the end of time is because only God can - so stop predicting!

People will either choose to believe or not to believe that 21st December 2012 is the Day of Judgement after reading this article. Nonetheless, based on this National Geographic news, I assume that many will think that 2012 is not doomsday due to the repeated failures of predicting the day that the world ends and readers like Steve Elzer, know that the movie ‘2012’ is just an entertainment experience.

As for myself, I chose not to believe that 2012 is the Day of Judgement as there are no signs or proof to convince me. I’m a Muslim and according to Islam, there will be certain indications to determine that the Day of Judgement is approaching and the movie ‘2012’ certainly did not show any of it. Hence, I trust that the action and thrilling movie was just an entertainment and that the year 2012 will not be doomed.

Summary: 2012 Prophecies Sparking Real Fears, Suicide Warnings

‘2012’ has made some people wanting to commit suicide in fear of doomsday, said a NASA Astrobiology Institute senior scientist, David Morrison. Distributor of Sony Pictures Entertainment created websites containing the facts on judgement day. Steve Elzer, Sony Pictures spokesperson disagreed with Morrison who said that the doomsday scenarios are true. Steve said that ‘2012’ is just an entertainment like ‘Transformers’ on robot aliens which are fictional and ‘Twilight: New Moon’ on vampires who are not amongnst us. Paul Boyner, Wisconsin University historian stated that doomsday prophecy is reciprocated. William Miller convinced many that judgement day will occur in 1843 and Hal Lindsey predicted that it'll happen in the 1980s. Conspiracy theorists believed those in power know about looming tragedies but did nothing. Anthony Aveni, a Maya expert, was motivated to write his book when a student who was vexed regarding doomsday got into an email dialogue with him. Anthony said that he won’t be doing his job if he allowed people ignoring Maya and be horrified of 2012.
